My counselor told me that the difference is actually how someone uses their energy and recharges. Being around a lot of people wipes me out and exhausts me, and I recharge by going home and being alone or with few people. If I were someone who needed to recharge by being around big groups of people, I would be extroverted. DISCLAIMER: I am only regurgitating this information, not expelling it from my own brain.
